Important Information for Voters

REVISIONS TO THE PRELIMINARY LIST OF ELECTORS

 The preliminary lists of electors have been prepared for the upcoming elections.  The revising officer(s) may make additions or corrections to the lists upon application by telephone, fax, e-mail, mail, or in person.  Electors may find out if they are on the list of electors by:

Contacting the returning office between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. from August 3 to August 28.

The returning office is located at the Municipality of Pictou County’s Administration Building is located at 46 Municipal Drive, Pictou.  Social distancing is in place if you visit the administration building.

You will be asked for your name, your address and your date of birth.

In order to be eligible to vote in the Oct. 17, 2020 municipal elections:
Electors must be 18 years of age on or before Oct. 5, 2020
Electors must be a Canadian Citizen by Oct. 5, 2020
Electors must be an ordinary resident of the Province of Nova Scotia six months prior to Oct. 5, 2020
Electors must be an ordinary resident in a municipality on or before Oct. 5, 2020

And take note that a nomination shall be filed for the positions of Mayor and Councillors at the office of the Returning Officer, Josephine MacDonald,  Municipality of Pictou County’s Administration Building, 46 Municipal Drive, Pictou, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on nomination day which is Tuesday, September 8, 2020, or by appointment during office hours by calling 902-485-2248 in the seven (7) business days preceding nomination day.

Municipal Elections will take place across Nova Scotia on October 17, 2020.   In Pictou County,  all six municipal units have decided to have votes cast electronically. This means there will be no paper ballots cast.  

Voters will receive information in the mail on how to vote electronically either via the internet or the telephone.  A help desk will also be established to help people with any questions they have regarding voting.
